“When buying or selling a home, the real difference is rarely in the big picture. It’s all in the details. By taking care of all the details, I can help people achieve their goals and reduce the stress involved in such a major life transition.”

Sometimes the tiniest details make the biggest difference. John DeWyer understands.

Spend enough time in law enforcement and you quickly learn that the tiniest details can make the difference between life and death. Take John DeWyer, for example. John devoted 30 years to serving with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, but one fateful memory remains vivid in his mind to this day. And he credits this achievement to his strict attention to detail.

Taking Initiative

In his free time, John enjoys scuba diving, photography, and spending quality time with his wife, Clara.

At one point in his career, John’s patrol area included Cerritos, which at the time was changing from a largely dairy farm area to a residential community. It was so new, no streets were even formed or listed on any maps yet. To get to know that daily growing community, because the current maps could not keep up with the changes at the time, he even took it upon himself to find his own ways to get to know the area – even going to the construction sites and requesting tract maps from the contractors. One day he got dispatched to aid a boy in dire need of medical attention in a home in this neighborhood. While the firemen (paramedics were not yet established in that area) who were unfamiliar with the streets struggled to find the residence, John’s prior knowledge and attention to detail allowed him to reach the child and transport him to receive much-needed treatment quickly and efficiently. Later a doctor told John that he saved that boy’s life – all because of a detail as seemingly insignificant as knowing how to navigate an unmapped road.

Small Detail, Big Impact

Looking back on his career, John believes his attention to detail was always at the root of his success. He began his career as a patrol deputy, but his strong work ethic and committed service earned him promotions to Sergeant, and later, Lieutenant. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in public administration, and ended phase one of his career as the Legal Lieutenant at the Central Jail downtown. His attention to detail even extends into his hobbies, including photography and scuba diving.
